I usually don't go for books like this, but I'm really glad that I did. Although it's isted in the Romance section, romance plays a very minor role in the book and instead focuses more on family relationships. Whisper Me This is a tragic story of physical and psychological abuse throughout three generations and how it affects their relationships and life choices. From the first chapter I was already engrossed in the mystery of a missing twin and why Maisey's dad was caught burning secret documents. Not having been a victim of abuse, I didn't always understand why Maisey reacted the way she did. However, I came to understand as each chapter reveals another piece of the puzzle and brings Maisey closer to figuring out why her mother abandoned Maisey's twin sister. This is a very emotional book and by the end of it I felt connected to each of the main characters. Content warning: brief references to sex, alcohol, drugs. Infrequent profanity. Multiple graphic scenes of violence.
