Perfect soundbar for LG TV, no auto shut-off and clear dialogue
I bought this soundbar and the equivalent Samsung so I could compare them in person before making a decision. I wanted a soundbar that would work best with my LG TV and would improve my ability to hear dialogue in movies and auto control volume level at night so I wasn't constantly riding the volume button. But most importantly, I wanted a sound bar that would not turn itself off if I left it paused for a long time. Apparently that is a very hard feature to find. Using HDMI ARC, I was able to pause a Disney + movie for over 45 minutes and it never shut off. I just pressed play and it kept on going. The Samsung, like every other soundbar I've ever seen, shuts off after 20 minutes or so, forcing you to have to find the soundbar remote to turn it back on. Another good feature of the LG, is that I can adjust the volume of the center channel separately, since most dialogue is kept on the center channel. This is one of the biggest benefits of getting a 3.1 soundbar over the internal TV speakers. TVs and even 2.1 sound bars often have to down mix the 5.1 channels and in the process the dialog gets muddy. Combined with the high dynamic range of Dolby Digital codecs, this is why movies can be so hard to hear especially when you're trying to listen in a quiet setting without waking up the kids. Get this soundbar, it solves all of those problems. Of course, I can only speak for folks with newer LG TVs with HDMI ARC port. It's possible that there's something special happening to allow the two LG products to talk to each other that keeps them from shutting off. I've read that the Samsung has better audio quality, but I can't imagine your average person would tell the difference. Personally, I found the sound of the LG to be brighter which actually helps with intelligibility. The Samsung did seem to have a slightly larger subwoofer driver in it, but I'm not trying to shake the house down. Convenience is king, go with the LG.
