Finally! My search is OVER!
I have been toying with these portable speakers/boombox's now for a few weeks. I am the master of NOT being happy and returning things. I want the best and most for my money, who doesn't? And that means I do a LOT of homework on the products I purchase. I originally wanted a SMALL Bluetooth speaker for sitting out on my patio, relaxing, BBQ'ing, watching the kids play or whatever. So let's mix sitting on the patio with some typical sounds that are outside that we all take for granted, (air conditioners, crickets, cicada's, tree frogs, cars passing, neighbors cutting grass, trimmers, kids playing, wind, emergency vehicles and whatever else you can toss in there).
So therein lies the problem, small speaker equals small sound, great for a small inside room or a quiet office.
I have a friend who has the Jawbone (which by the way started this entire mess for me :-) ), and for its size it does sound wonderful, however it does not get very loud at all, mix that in with the price they are charging ($179) and no thanks.. I will pass.
I went to Brookstone to check out the BIG blue, again, the sound was ok, but really only designed to fill a small room, and with a $100 price tag, I really felt like I was getting robbed on the volume.
I next purchased a Sony SRS8, this system by far had the best sound from the two mentioned above, it had the highs and the lows for a speaker this size which it truly was nice, but again, the problem, it just didn't get loud enough to drown out the normal noises of living in a neighborhood or being outside.
I next purchased the JBL flip, it had more than double the wattage of the others above (the above are all 2wx2) this guy had 5wx2 and yes, it was really loud and it screamed, but that is what it did, it screamed, I found no mid-range and for sure no low range (bass).
Finally..... I was poking around Target, looking for diapers and thought, ah, what the heck, let's see what they have to offer.. And there she was, the G-BOOM. Initially I thought man, this thing is too big, and it is considerably larger than the ones described above, however nothing crazy large (it will not go in your laptop bag), roughly a bit larger than a lunch box. Then I turned it on and.... OH MY! This thing is WAY powerful, (10wx2 3 inch woofers and two 1 inch tweeters). My jaw dropped! The highs were very clean and vivid, and next, what is that... wait for it.. it actually had bass! I listen to a variety of music, so when I say bass, I am not talking about rap music thumping down the street. I am referring to a complement of highs, mids and lows to form a well-balanced blend of music, this means things like bass in a voice, or the vibration of a guitar strum, and of course in drums. I was very impressed for the price I paid ($100 at target) this thing had it all. Easy to pair with both my phone and my wife's, ok range on the Bluetooth (the flip was crazy distances), very sturdy, rugged (for that direct soccer ball hit), and rechargeable.
My wife walked over, because I was being the obnoxious one blaring the music in the store and drawing attention from several passerby's and she too was like WOW! You better get that one! And ladies and gentlemen that was all it took! I have used it every day since the purchase and I can't say it enough, it literally rocks and kills ANYTHING in its price range in regards to the overall sound experience, and let's face it, that is why we are buying speakers!
