Visual feedback, silent action with a non-jarring alarm, perfect for my adult ADHD!
Apologies for the long review; I kind of get on a tangent when I find something I like and want to recommend. I've always struggled to keep track of time properly due to the executive function issues related to ADHD, and I've tried all kinds of timers to help me manage things--phone apps, websites, digital kitchen timers, alarm clocks, a really cheap analog timer that I accidentally broke pretty easily, etc. I believe this will be the last timer I'll need to try! Other timers have also taken me by surprise simply because my brain for some reason doesn't really grasp the numbers ("that's 25 minutes already?!" or "how has it only been 10 minutes?!"). The visual aspect of this timer is a lifesaver, as it helps me quickly look up and see the wedge getting smaller. It's a small thing, but it has been really valuable for me. I'm an extremely visual person, so it just clicks better in my head than looking at the numbers and mentally computing the time remaining. I'm also really pleased with the action of the timer; it's smooth to turn, completely silent as it runs, and very easy to stop the alarm per the instructions (turn quickly to 5, then back to zero to shut off). I have mine set to the lower volume (2 options) so that I can have it nearby and not jump out of my skin when I'm hyperfocused, and I also have it set to go off for only 3 seconds. It's absolutely perfect for Pomodoro technique time management without the anxiety of a loud alarm that will go off forever if I happen to go to the bathroom and forget it's running (which has happened). It's also got very clear stops to the action, so while there is a warning not to over-wind it, it'd be hard to do. Very easy to use. Compared to other timers at this price point, analog or digital, I'd say this one was absolutely the right choice for me. If you're like me and want something simple, portable and most of all *visual*, I would highly recommend it. Oh, and just a note based on my own preference and thoughts: if you're thinking of buying it for a child, spouse or friend who wants help with time management, I would recommend getting the blue or green. I definitely steered away from the red because it felt so... intense and punish-y? I chose the blue one, and it's really soothing. Color in the listing seems about right. If, on the other hand, you want something that conveys a real sense of urgency (like "turn the oven off when this goes off or you'll start the house on fire"), red might fit better. ;)
