Great set of dumbbells for a home gym
This is my first video review and I hope you find it helpful.
These cast iron dumbbells are a great way to save money over a gym membership. We have cancelled our gym membership and now work out at home at our convenience with out wasting time to drive to the gym. It's also nice not to have to wait for gym equipment to free up. As explained in the video, these have threaded collars instead of tension collars.
We bought two sets of these for a total of four dumbbells. We bought each set at different times, so that could explain the discrepancies in size between the two sets. The measurements in each set are equal within the set, they are just different between the two different sets.
The knurling (the grip part of the bar) provides a good grip where it doesn't tear up your hands if you're not wearing gloves, but it's also not so slippery that it's hard to hold on to (which can be dangerous if dropped).
Some details:
Set 1 (2 dumbbells):
Bar diameter = 1"
Bar total length = 16 and 1/4"
Knurling length = 4 and 1/2"
Set 2 (2 dumbbells):
Bar diameter = 1"
Bar total length = 17"
Knurling length = 4 and 3/4"
As noted in the video, the total weight of an assembled dumbbell is only 51 lbs as opposed to 52.5 lbs. The weights themselves seem accurate in weight, however, somewhere in the total the weights are off by about a lb to a lb and a half.
The paint chips off as the weights are taken on and off, but they're heavy, so I wouldn't expect them to stay new looking forever. It does make a little mess at first, but once all your initial chipping is done, it's not bad at all. Your weights just look very used very quickly. The paint chipping doesn't affect their function; however, if they're kept in a humid environment, pay attention to possible rust where the paint has come off.
