Perfect Fit for My Home Office - Meets/Exceeds Expectations
This printer came out at just the right time for me. I was looking for a small business/home office laser to upgrade from my previous inkjet. I considered a wide range of other color laser printers, including Brother, Samsung, and Canon but was primarily focused on the HP M476dw. My only concern with that was the size of the thing and slightly higher than ideal cost. Luckily, this printer was released last week (April 11, 2015) and seems to fit my needs better than the M476dw. Size: HP claims it is 40% smaller than the previous model (M276) and I believe them. This is hardly much taller than the HP inkjet I had and really a perfect size for a home office. Setup: Pretty straightforward. Took me a total of maybe 10 minutes to install the software and have things up and running. Scan to Network wizard walks you through setting up the printer to scan directly to a drive on your network. The most difficult part of setup (and it wasn't difficult at all) was the Scan to email wizard...I had to Google the Gmail SMTP settings for that to work...took all of 15 seconds. Now the printer can scan directly to an email address sent from any of the email accounts I set up on the device. I have 2 email addresses currently on there, my business and a personal one, both are run via Google and both send scans directly from the printer with no issues. Printing: This being my first color laser experience outside of a large office environment, I can say I'm pretty impressed. The color seems to be great to my eyes...certainly much better than any color laser printers I've ever used in the consulting world (including large clients and major firms I've worked for). Warm-up to print the first page is much quicker than my inkjet. Printing duplex is smooth and also quick. Scanning: No issues that I can see. Works well and changing settings (file type, quality, etc.) is easy right from the front control panel. The only downside is no duplex scanning. Bummer. I would have really liked that but that was the concession I made in getting this vs. the much larger and more expensive M476dw model. Copying: Also works as you would expect. You can copy 2 single-sided pages to 1 double-sided sheet but, since there's no duplex scanner, you can't make direct photocopies of two-sided sheets of paper. Quality of the copy is great and again, fast. Toner: I can't actually verify this, but HP claims their new toner with JetIntelligence expands the print capacity by 28%. Hopefully that's true. They also claim some other bells and whistles...who knows. The cartridges included with the printer are not regular yield toner cartridges but are rated by HP to 1500 pages for the black and 700 pages for the color. So you've got some time to test them out before buying replacement toner. That's my take on this printer. Since this is a new model with no reviews I wanted to get this out there to help anyone that was in the same spot as me. Even though it's new and I definitely haven't pushed it to any limits or anything, works perfect for my needs (home office, small management consulting practice in the DC Metro area). I did not purchase through Amazon (hence no Verified Purchase) but I was lucky enough to find a 15% off any one item for a chain store and this knocked the price down on this new model significantly. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll get to them when I can.
