For people who think the UV-C "light" is missing so you have a defective unit, please note: The UV-C light is "hidden" so you don't harm yourself. (UV light is harmful to your eyes and skin if you are exposed to the bulb. So to protect you it sits under a gray plastic cover at the bottom of the machine. It is underneath the filter, as I said, under the elongated gray plastic cover at the bottom of the machine. DO NOT TRY TO SEE IT, there's nothing there except a long glass bulb. In any event, if you removed the cover to see it in operation, that won't happen because the machine stays "off" any time the plastic grill is removed. Additionally, I saw a one-star review because that buyer thought he was cheated out of the expected four filters. The fact is folks, this air purfier, like all the others on the market, comes with ONE filter. (Ask yourself, at $109 would any seller be able to include what he said is "4 carbon filters." I don't think so. Nowhere in the listing does the ad say you are getting 4 filters, carbon or otherwise. What you get is ONE filter that has three parts, plus the UV-C light filter functionality. So that technically is four filtration processes. That's where his mistake was. He looked at the filter graphic pic, saw the single filter divided into three parts and mistook that to mean there's four filters in the box. The ad pic shows the filter "sandwich" is broken down into three parts: the "pre filter," the "carbon filter," and the "HEPA filter." It also shows the UV-C filter. 3 filters + 1 UV-C filter = 4 filters. ____________________ I liked that this model VAVA has the option to use UV-C sterilization. That was critical for our house to offer some protection against COVID. Additionally, there are two of us, plus a cat and two dogs. And as bad luck would have it, we're all sensitive to pollen, etc. Fast forward five weeks, there's raging fires here in Northern California. The end result for us in the big city (San Francisco) every year we get LOTS OF HARMFUL SMOKE. How much smoke? Well, I ran one window AC unit today because we are suffering a heatwave. Other Bay Area cities are experiencing 105-degree heat. Here on Nob Hill it is getting into the mid-90s. After running the AC unit for about 8 hours today, the mesh filter that was clean on Monday (I checked it) now has a layer of brown tinted contaminants on it (smoke contaminants). Out-of-context: If you are reading these reviews you all are aware of how harmful smoke pollutants are, to our lungs and the rest of our respiratory system. So in summary: 1) We have three fur-bearing beasts; 2) The wife and I suffer from allergies; one of our rescued dogs is also sensitive to contaminated air; 3) There's COVID contaminated air that can enter the house via the dust and debris kicked up into the air by, for example, the trash guys 3X a week; 4) Then there's the fires that's making our town look and smell like Peking proper. I had done a LOT of research about these (what I call) "air sanitizers." I restricted my search for a UV-C system because I already have some decent air purifiers that don't have that option. This VAVA system got the highest marks all over the Net. Sure as a crab's butt is watertight, when I set up the three units I first bought, they performed perfectly. I had really clean air in my place. But then there are the fires. I won't repeat what others have said, suffice it to say, I turned on the three units about 7:00 PM, all at full blast (#3 fan speed). Within three hours our house is ODOR FREE!!! Nuff' said about how well these perform. P.S. Before turning on the units I noted that inside our house the stench of fire smoke permeated every room of the house. Angered, I used masking tape to seal us in. I placed the tape around all openings where air from the outside was leeching in. Within our now-sealed chambers, the stench was totally gone by 9:00 pm. I'm one happy camper. I was so impressed I just now bought two additional units for the father-in-law, who is 85 years old. He can't be suffering the double whammy of COVID and the fire smoke. Him using these UV-C air sanitizers will let us sleep a lot more comfortably knowing he's protected. That's the end of my story.
