A really useful tool. Here's my recipe for success.
This is a really useful tool. After doing about a dozen loads, I've come up with a recipe that works even dor my clothes that are muddy from camping. My only caveat is that I've only used it with a 5 gal bucket (should run you about 10 to 12 bucks). With less water and/or a shallower container, I don't know if this would work so well.
1. Use warm water if you can.
2. Expect to be able to do about 2 days worth of clothes, but only one pair of trousers. The bucket should be about half full, maybe two-thirds, with the clothes loose, not packed down.
3. Start with a pre-rinse. Fill the bucket, and use the wand for 30 to 60 strokes. You will encounter resistance. Push through it, or you just mash the clothes to the bottom. Empty.
4. Refill the bucket. When full, add your soap to the water, trying not to pour directly on clothes. Let soak 10 to 15 min.
5. Use 30 to 60 strokes to wash the clothes. Empty.
6. Fill with clean rinse water. Another 30 to 60 strokes, and you're done. Wring out the clothes and hang to dry.
It's a bit of a workout, but not bad. Being short (as I am) makes it harder, I think. If you're a 5 footer like me, you'll get a bit of a burn when you do the full 60 strokes. But it gets my clothes much cleaner than any other camping method I've tried.
