Very Large Cage .. Great Value!
I bought this cage after researching tons of cages over a six week period. I recently purchased a Holland Lop from a breeder. I chose him when he was just two weeks old, and then had to wait another six weeks before picking him up. I looked at outdoor vs. indoor cages, did a lot of research, read a lot of reviews. I decided not to keep the bun outside, but inside in a heated garage. Since this breed is the smallest size bun, I was worried that predators may get into an outdoor cage, plus the buns tend to eat the wood inside and overall, there are no truly weather proof outdoor cages. Most have to be brought in during the coldest of winters and the outdoor cages tend to look horrible after a year or so of being exposed to harsh temperatures. I love this cage and have no regret in purchasing it. I have read many reviews of there being difficulty in assembling the unit. The directions are not great, but I had no issues at all with assembly. Perhaps, it is because I am visually oriented and the instructions were in picture format. The base is one solid piece. The cage is comprised of four sides, door obviously opening in the front. The metal cage is held together with eight "L" clips (four for bottom, four for top), which snap into place. The lid took a coupe tries, but you can't mess it up. The pieces will only fit one way. I assembled unit myself in about twenty minutes. The cage is large (almost four ft.). I put in it a large corner litter box (as the bun is litter trained)Ware Plastic Scatterless Lock-N-Litter Bigger Pet Pan, Jumbo, Colors May Vary and decent size bed. Still, there is plenty of room for the bunny to jump around and explore. He is able to stand fully, as well. The cage comes with a water bottle which I replaced. I purchased a larger water bottle with a double ball system so no issues with leaking, Lixit Assorted Critter Brites Deluxe Rabbit Bottle, 32-Ounce. As well, I immediately replaced the hay feeder it comes with (it hangs on the outside and makes a mess), with a larger unit that hangs inside the cage and holds both food and hay, Super Pet Hay n Food Bin Feeder with Quick Locks. I hung the hay feeder up high over the litter box, so everything is contained. No mess! It comes with a nice shelf that bun has plenty of room to go under and stretch and a food dish, which I use for treats. The cage opens in the front so the bun can easily get in and out and the lid of the cage opens completely (swings back), for ease of adding food and hay to his feeder. The entire cage has eight plastic clamps around the bottom (two on each side), securing the cage to the base. These flip up and the cage lifts off the high, plastic base for easy cleaning. A complete cleanup literally takes less than fifteen minutes. Even though I replaced the water bottle and hay feeder for a better quality product, this cage still was the largest and most convenient, for ease of cleaning, that I have found. It is hands down the greatest value for the money and it is a nice looking cage. * I have attached two pics of the cage. In the pics, I have my Holland Lop and a co-workers Lop shown. They were happily exploring their new home. I held my co-workers bun for a week until she got her own cage. She purchased same one and loves it. * Just to note, my bun never made it to the heated garage. His sweet face got him a home in the guest room!
