I'm a graduate student and I do a lot of reading so I wanted something comfortable and low to the ground to sit on so I could throw my books on the floor while I'm working and still have them easily accessible. For a while I had been daydreaming about making my own foam filled giant "bean bag" chair. My boyfriend was very much against it for several reasons, and as I was doing research on the DIY beanbag chair I started to see how making my own could become a total mess and cost over $100. I really don't have the time to make my own right now, and $100 was about the max I wanted to spend, so when I found this beauty on Amazon I decided to give it a go, bad reviews be darned. I figured potentially wasting $116 on Amazon was a lot better than spending the same amount to make my own, and make a mess out of it. And I am so glad I bought this instead. Out of the box (which was kind of awful to carry up the stairs) it was a foam cube rock. It didn't do anything cool when it was released from its tethers, it just kind of sat there like a cube rock. I was able to easily pull the chunks apart through the fabric, and did a little bit of punching and kicking and it soon became a giant foam blob. I did a "running" (swiftly walking) jump onto it and it and it was kind of fun. I didn't break any bones or anything. I like to change positions a lot when I read so I have no idea if sitting stationary causes it to sink down into the floor. I'm sitting on it right now as I type and it's morphed itself into an almost arm chair shape. As soon as I'm finished, I'm going to fluff it up again and jump on it so I can lie down on it like a squishy, short bed. As I write this, I realize that I do a lot of jumping and falling onto this thing, and maybe that's the key. I could see how, at it's full fluffed-up height, it looks horribly uncomfortable. My arthritic cat avoids it unless I am already on it. But if you jump or fall into it, it forms a perfect little cocoon of comfort around your body.
