Pretty Great, Could Be Better!
I recently got into canning, it seems the Memaw gene activates somewhere around 36 and suddenly you must preserve all the things and knit blankets and s$*t. I was using the standard waterbath pot for the past 2 years, but it takes up so much room on the stovetop and makes it hard to do other things (like prep whatever it is you're canning) while your waiting 4 forevers for that thing to come to a boil. I was immediately in love with the electric-powered option the FreshTech offers, freeing up my stovetop and my propane. All in all, a smart purchase, but it could stand a few improvements:
Pros:
-electric, more energy/fuel efficient
-space saver
-spigot is BANANAS, easy drain and water level adjustment
-steams
-can be used for large batches of soup/stew
Cons:
-temperature is hard to maintain/adjust. I could only get the water to a rolling boil on the highest (canning) setting and attempting to turn it down just a tinch shuts off the boil completely.
-canning rack it comes with is useless, 4 quart jars had to constantly be adjusted as they kept vibrating towards each other to party in the middle of the pot. Breakage scares me - I grannied hard for them jars of bloody mary mix. Buy one with fitted spots for specific jars. I ended up buying a vinyl one with pint and quart holsters (totally not what they're called but work with me here)
-Still took an hour to get to a rolling boil with the water level to almost max
-would be nice to have a built in timer
-spigot could be just an inch or two more extended off of the pot-barely able to get the drain over the sink without putting the pot off level
Again, glad I purchased, but just a few wonky kinks, which will never get my Memaw down! #MemawStrong
