Flight Crew Approved
UPDATE: I reviewed this bag in June of 2017. Almost exactly 3 years later, it finally died. The wheel just rolled off as I was coming home from work. TravelPro makes it kind of hard to repair or replace parts. So I just called it a day and bought yet another TravelPro. (End Update)
I'm reviewing the Travelpro Maxlite 4 Rolling Tote that I just received alongside the Maxlite 3 that I've been using every day for work as a flight attendant and leisure travel for almost 3 years. The bag on the left in each photo is the new bag, with the older model on the right.
WHEELS:
-roll smoothly
-never gave out, but did become wobbly after a couple years
-cannot tighten wheels
-must buy entire new wheel in housing, unlike many other brands that are fully adjustable
HANDLES:
-both the cloth handle and the retractable one held up well to heavy use
-retractable handle never jammed going up or down, continues to move smoothly
MATERIAL:
-apparently impervious
-never cleaned and still looks nice
FIT ON REGIONAL JETS:
-packed without bulging, bag fits in the bins of all the most troublesome jets: CRJ 200, 700, & 900; ERJ 145
-will not roll down the aisle on most regional jets
ZIPPERS:
-these were the death of my older model
-both zipper pulls separated from the bag nearing my bag's 3rd anniversary, but most likely due to user error from overpacking and not unzipping completely before opening the bag
OVERALL:
-bag fits SO MUCH; I can easily fit a large toiletry bag, running shoes, casual shoes, work out clothes, a couple casual outfits, and work necessities; I've used this bag for anywhere between 2-5 day trips
-very happy with the Maxlite 3, and the Maxlite 4 seems nearly identical
-keep in mind this bag was used heavily on average for 5 days/week for almost 3 years
-Maxlite 4 has weird exposed gray rubber part on exterior piping (shown in photo, pointed out with pen); the manufacturer picture shows it, but in person I thought it was a defect until further inspection
