The standard in office software...even for a Mac
I've used Macs for the last 15 years or so, but I have to admit that Microsoft's suite of productivity software has always been better than anything Apple has offered. I got Microsoft Office Home & Student 2016 for Mac to replace the Microsoft Office 2008 that I've been running on my MacBook Pros for quite some time. (What can I say? It did what I needed it to do!) Of the four programs included with this version of Office, I will only use two of them--Word and Excel--with any regularity. PowerPoint is nice to have, I suppose, but I rarely use it. And I've been using Evernote for a few years now, so I won't be using OneNote at all. That said, Word and Excel are worth the investment all by themselves. Downloading the software was simple, although it did take quite a while--a little over an hour using my 70 Mbps Internet connection--and installation was a breeze. I am not a Microsoft Office power user, so I can't speak to the differences between this version of Office and the older version I was using, other than the 2016 version has a much cleaner look. It also seems to be faster, which is definitely a good thing. Microsoft's Office has been the standard office software for several years now, and I don't know of anything out there that's a threat to stealing that title away from Microsoft anytime soon. So if you own a Mac and do word processing, spreadsheets, or slide shows, you should probably own this software. Whether or not you get the Home & Student edition--which is only good for use on a single Mac--depends on your particular situation. Your other options are Microsoft Office Home and Business 2016 for Mac | Mac Key Card (which adds Outlook to the mix); or Microsoft Office 365 Home 1 Year | 5 PC or 5 Mac Key Card (which adds Outlook, online storage, and allows use on 5 Macs and 5 tablets, but is an annual subscription instead of a one-time payment). One thing to be aware of: You have to have OSX 10.10 or above on your machine to use this version of office. So that means Yosemite or El Capitan. If you are still running Mavericks--or anything earlier--you will have to upgrade before you can use this software. Lastly, I don't quite understand why the key card for this software has to be mailed to you. Other than the actual key card with the Product Key number on it, all you're getting is a little cardboard box and a small piece of cardboard with five short steps on how to set up the software (a grand total of about 50 words). Isn't this something that could be emailed to purchasers? Why waste the materials and resources to mail it? If anyone knows the answer to that question, please let me know.
