I can see why there are so many negatives reviews for all of these cheap heat guns / all brands. Tips on how to.
This review applies to all cheap brands; pay attention to the description pictures, many guns looks the same with different colors. If they look the same, that tells you that it is the same mold and the same manufacturer in China making it with different brands. So paying more money for something that looks the same it is not a guarantee that it is a better unit. I examined the tool and here are the reasons why they fail. Use some common sense while using the heat gun and understand the difference between using it in cold weather or during the summer. I f you are stripping paint in cold weather, then using the high-temperature settings, should not be a problem. Using the gun with an outdoor temperature of 85-90 F makes a big difference on its performance. The highest heating setting should be only used for short periods of time, at this setting the resistors get red hot, which means that not enough air is going over them. A constant use on high will end in the resistors failing. Suggestion if you need to use it in high, do your best to switch between high and low so it may reduce the temperature of the internal components. If you are working with the high temp setting, do not suddenly turn off the heat gun, move the switch to the low temp setting, so it will reduce the temperature of the internal components, unfortunately this gun does not have a cool air mode only, that would it allow it to cool completely before one could turn it off. Do not turn it off from high, and leave it with the nozzle facing down, (hot air rises). The residual heat will be escaping from the back and will start to take a toll on the little fan blade and motor. Pay attention, when you turn off the gun, leave it resting with the nozzle up, that way the heat will dissipate without affecting the plastic casing. Do not get the tip of the nozzle at one inch from the surface, you are reducing the airflow of the gun and it will overheat. Try to keep a distance of about 2 inches from the surface. Work with the gun in an angle from the surface, it will reduce the air static pressure and improve the air flow. This is not a professional tool; this is a weekend warrior tool. A professional tool for continuous hours of operation is over $100. Before the first use, shake it slightly, if it rattles and it sounds like a loose part on the inside, put in the box and return it. A loose screw, or a small piece of plastic, will break the blades of the fan, and the gun will fail. Do not drop it, it will not take it. After you finish your work, unplug it, let it cool in a place where there are no materials that can ignite, such plastic or paper bags. So far it works, I am just being careful with it, to see if it may last. 4 stars because it does not have a cool off setting, and not enough air for the high temp setting.
