I just received this jacket for my 45 lb mixed girl who isn't the best swimmer. I ordered a large after trying to fit a medium one in the store and found the medium just barely fit around her neck and the back seemed short for her body. So far this fits really well, I'm able to cinch down the buckles around her chest and the neoprene flaps don't seem too big on her, the velcro is on their tightest fit (velcro lines up perfectly to itself) before overlapping too much. The neck area also fits well around her neck, where the velcro lines up to itself, on the medium the velcro attached at the very ends just barely securing together, which also meant the floaty that is supposed to help keep their head up was now off to one side instead of under her chin. I attached pics of her wearing the vest as well as pics of her measurements to help give an idea of how this will fit. I briefly tested the top handles lifting her and they seem sturdy enough, obviously they're not meant for prolonged lifting, but strong enough to lift her out of the water if necessary. We also have a larger lean 60+ lb chow/golden mix in the family. While the neck fits him similar to my girl, the neoprene is securing at the very ends and the buckles had to be opened up almost all the way, meaning he's maxing out the chest area. The length also looks a little short on him. If you watch Outward Hound's fitting video the vest they fit on the demo dog fits like it does on my 45 lb dog even though her measurements would put her in a size medium and not a large. I'll update when we get her out in the water and see how she handles actually using it. 45lb dog's measurements: Neck: 17 in. Chest: 26 in.
