Roomba 671 Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum This is our third Roomba and we were very surprised that this model did NOT come with a lighthouse or virtual walls. The advertisement stated that it has Smart Navigation. We found this unit works best when set up in individual rooms. After a full day of testing in different rooms and on different flooring, we found this unit has a lot of positives and has some problems. Setup: The package included the Roomba, the home base and the battery. All you have to do is plugin the home base, add the battery and let it charge. The unit seemed to be partially charged and did not need the three hours for a full charge. Installing the IRobot app: We tried installing the app on two different tablets and did not have any luck due to the fact that the app cannot run on a 5g network. We had no problem using the app on our smartphone. After installing, the app opens up with a very nice tutorial that walks you through the steps to use the app with the Roomba. We also have an Amazon Echo and was able to setup with our Alexa app. Very easy to do and the gives you the ability to speak your commands out loud to Alexa and she does all the work! IRobot app: Whenever the Roomba had a problem or issue, I would get a text message letting me know what was going on. It let me know if it was stuck and needed assistance, Very cool! It also has a list that lets you know the history of cleaning. It shows the battery life and when the Roomba finds really dirty spots. It also lets you know how long the Roomba has been running. Alexa: The app gives you suggestions on how to talk to Alexa. We were able to tell her to start the Roomba to start cleaning, we could tell her to pause the Roomba and also to stop and go back to home base. It worked easily and was actually awesome! Vacuuming: The Roomba does a very good job at getting a deep clean on your carpet. We've actually experimented with our other vacuums and when we were done, we ran Roomba over the same carpet and actually had a lot of dirt in our cup. Really impressed! It also has no problem going from tile to wood to carpet. It just adjusted its height and worked fine. We have different levels in our house and it did not fall off the steps. It would sense the edge and then turn around, very cool! Our first two models have trouble with our dark cabinets; they would bang into them really hard. So we had to add a barrier or virtual wall to stop that from happening. This newer model does not have a problem with the dark color. It would go up to the cabinet and easily turn around. No problem at all! One problem we did have was with our living room carpet. The carpet has colorful squares that are outlined with black. The dark color gave the Roomba a difficult time. It acted lost! It would spin, go backwards, then stop. We did read a note that someone else had this issue. The manufacturer gave a note that the sensor causes this and that some tweaking could correct it. We chose to just use a different vacuum to clean this carpet. After using the vacuum for the entire day, I asked my husband his thoughts. We both think the virtual walls and lighthouse are necessary to have the Roomba work its best. We did like the new sensor that kept the robot from banging our dark furniture. We also like the IRobot app that gives you the history and text messages. It also have a neat feature that helps you locate the robot when it gets lost!
