Read the book now. Thank me later.
Lucy Score shows us with this release that she can write it all. She can write romantic comedies that will make you laugh until you cry. Military romances? Sure. Beautiful gut-wrenching stories of deep and abiding love? Yup. Scorching love scenes that you don't dare read in public? Absolutely. This new release, By a Thread, shows she has the prose chops to deliver a hero you sort of can't stand and also can't help but love, and a heroine who is all sass on the surface, but who is being dragged down by life circumstances beyond her control.
In my personal opinion, if you aren't rooting for the couple to achieve their happily ever after, then there's really no reason to read a romance novel. Well, let me tell you in no uncertain terms, you will root for Dom and Ally like you'd root for your team when they've had a dry spell of 50 years and make it to the "BIG GAME". (As an aside, I'd like to offer another round of apologies to the neighbors for my behavior during the past Super Bowl. #goChiefs.) And because it's Lucy Score, you can expect a full cast of supporting characters that will make you want to beg her for their stories next. This is unadvisable, but a natural reaction to reading anything she's ever put between book covers.
Of course, this is a romance, a fantasy, a work of fiction. But I believe the leading characters and the storyline itself were crafted in a way that gives them an unexpected and beautiful sense of reality. In my opinion, this is one of Ms. Score's very best efforts yet. Read the book now, you can thank me later.
