I've recently purchased 3 fans of this type. The other 2 fans were Holmes brand. They all work; I'd recommend either. Here are the differences: The Avalon fan has a lower pitch hum which I find more pleasing to the ear. The velocity of air current is noticeably stronger with the Holmes, however. The Avalon fits much, much better into our new Anderson retrofit windows than the Holmes brand which tends to slop around and come loose a lot. The overall design of Avalon is much more slick -- except that the air current is noticeably softer than the Holmes. So, if you want a stronger air current and don't mind a potentially sloppy window fit, go with Holmes. If a decent air current with a great fit is what you're looking for, then Avalon is a good bet.
