It's an overpriced glowing puck, but it actually works.
I bought this in a fit of late-night frustration. For the past couple months, I've been mysteriously waking up at 3 am every night and lying awake for over an hour, my head buzzing with thoughts about the day ahead. I tried medications, breathing exercises, reading boring books, exercise, nothing seemed to work. I was really reluctant to pay $60 for a silly glowing light puck, but it was either that or prescription sleeping pills, so I figured it was worth a shot: Either it works and it's $60 well spent, or it doesn't and I send it back.
Well, it works. For the past week whenever I wake up at 3am, I reach over and touch the Dodow and time my breathing to the light. The need to focus and concentrate on the light consumes my thoughts and crowds out everything else I might be thinking, and effectively "bores" me to sleep. It doesn't even take me eight minutes--within a couple minutes my eyes are droopy and I'm drifting out. Amazing, definitely a keeper.
Caveat: The marketing makes it sound like the Dodow is some calming device that will gently lull you to sleep like a baby's lullaby. It's not. It feels like work. The light is somewhat harsh, and your eyes don't want to look at it. But if you put in the work, if you focus, and if you really commit to timing your breaths and avoiding excessive thinking, it really does work. (Really, this is how all basic meditation works--the Dodow just gives you something visual to focus on.)
