NIce Flag But Guarantee Does Not Cover Routine Fading
*** 3/1/16 Update - I bought this Annin American flag from Amazon in Jan 2015 and began flying it the day I received it. It has been on my flagpole 24/7/365 since then (well lighted at night, of course). It has endured countless rainstorms; high, blustery winds; sleet and snow storms (I live in N. IL) and searing sunny days and is holding up wonderfully. The colors are still bright and vibrant and the hems are still tight, there isn't the slightest bit of wear and tear or loose threads on the bordering edges or the flying end, and it is still beautiful.
I got my new American Flag today and when I opened the box it came in...WOW, a deep blue field and brilliant white stars. When I took my older colors down for retirement and had this on my flagpole my eyes beheld a beauty. But being a veteran I have never seen an American Flag that, to my eyes, is not a beauty to behold. Some may be older and a bit faded or possibly frayed on the flying edge but these are MY colors. MY national flag. The colors I served under. And every American Flag is a reminder to me of my country, my lost friends, and I swell with admiration anytime I see her and take pride in having served under her.
It seems to be a well made flag but only time will tell of its; longevity. I fly my flag 24/7/365 (well lighted at night) and have hopes of this lasting me for a good 6 months to a year - I replace my American Flag when it starts to become faded or frayed - and will update this concerning the durability.
One word about Annin's guarantee about free replacement against fading - it does not cover the regular fading of the blue field or red stripes that is common with nylon flags. The guarantee included with my flag states:
(Quote)
2 - Color guarantee applies to base color retention only. Both red and blue colors will not fade to orange and purple, respectively, as may be common on all other nylon US flags. Some color lightening may occur. This does not affect the usefulness of the flag and is not covered under this guarantee.
(End quote)
It's too bad Annin does not include this distinction in the mentioning of their guarantee. It seems to me to be a bit misleading and could make someone think that this flag will resist routine and regular fading. I have been flying nylon American Flags outside my home for decades and have never had the red stripes turn orange or the blue field become purple. But I only fly quality, Made in the USA flags so maybe this type of fading/color change could happen on some cheap imports - Heaven knows why any American citizen would want to fly an non-Made in the USA American flag but that is a choice they are entitled to in America.
Overall I am pleased with my new Annin flag.
