Bad, Bad Littermaid!!! - Update and retraction of complaints.
Not quite 6 weeks and it no longer works. I used to get Littermaids that worked for at least two years until the gears wore out, but no more. I bought the LM-86579 November 8, 2016 and it quit working the 1st part of March, 2017. I bought the LM980 March 6, 2017 and today, April 20, 2017 it no longer works. They both will just sit there with the green light blinking. You can unplug them and let them sit for a couple of hours, plug it back in, green light glows steady for a little while and then it starts blinking. No movement of the rake. In both cases there was no sign of the rake getting stuck and causing a problem. I am very unhappy. I gave $140 for this one and $135 for the other one. The original one that I bought 17 years ago when my two cats were kittens (that I gave to my son who has one cat) is still working. I'm very upset.
I bought this from Amazon.com, LLC, but it is 13 days past the return date, so I think I am just stuck with it with no recourse at this point.
********************** Update and Retraction of Complaints on April 26, 2017 **********************************
I tried the customer care line at 1-800-526-0650 and I would suggest not calling that number, because you get add, after add, after add. I gave up after the 4th or 5th add and not being able to talk to a human or get out of the add loop.
I decided if I actually talked to someone about my problems that I should probably register both non functioning Littermaids. When I registered them at http://www.littermaid.com/littermaid-customer-service/warranty.aspx, I found a warranty phone number at the bottom of the page after it went through as submitted and wrote it down. Use the phone number you find there. I won't write the phone number here, because you need to register your product first.
I called the number and went right to a human being who was very, very helpful. (Christina, thank you so very, very much!)
She had me try to reset the Littermaid first.
You kneel down next to the dumping station close to where the ramp is if you attached it. The battery compartment should be the point farthest away from you. On the right side starting at the battery compartment take your finger and follow the inside of the track that the wheel for the rake travels in. Right before you get to the dumping station you will find a button inside the track. Push the button 10 times in order to reset the rake. I unplugged the unit and replugged it, then tried the reset procedure a second time with no luck. the rake didn't move like it should after you turn the unit off and then back on. At that point, she decided that it was indeed a dead unit.
You need the model number and the serial number (serial number is on the 2nd sticker in the battery compartment). They will take your name and address and send you a totally new unit to replace the one that is dead, because they are guaranteed for one year. She took down my information on April 21, 2017 for both non working Littermaids and I received two brand new replacement units today, April 26, 2017. (You do not have to send them your not functioning unit.)
I have no bad words for a company that stands behind their products like this.
I have used Littermaids since my two boys were kittens seventeen years ago. I have never used anything else and if you use the correct litter and fill to the appropriate spot, they work correctly for me.
Many thanks for a product that has served my two senior cats very well.
