A Necessity For Bakers
Before I bought this, I relied on 2 other oven thermometers because the baking temperature is crucial to all my baking. Recently, one of my thermometers started reading 25 degrees higher than the other. I noticed my baked goods were a tiny bit over-done as well. This is the oven thermometer Cook's Illustrated recommends. I ordered it, shipping from a third party seller, ReStockIt. I can't believe how fast I received this order. Wow! After testing among all my thermometers, I am convinced this thermometer and one of my other thermometers is accurate and matches the temperature set on the oven. I intend to base my baking time on this thermometer.
Edited to add: After baking several cakes since I received this thermometer, I am happy to report I have not experienced any over-baking, as I previously had. This thermometer has made me feel sure that the temperature in my oven is exactly where I want it to be. In baking, there are so many things you are unsure of, the temperature in your oven should not be one of them. I am so glad I purchased this thermometer. It has given me peace of mind.
UPDATE 11/25/14: I just bought this thermometer again. My original Cooper-Arkins 24HP-01-1 Stainless Steel Bi-Metal Oven Thermometer is still working perfectly since I purchased it in 2011. I actually don't need a new thermometer. However, I bought it because I have been using 3 thermometers in my oven while baking . The other 2 are not Cooper-Atkins. I am not going to use my other 2 oven thermometers anymore because the Cooper-Atkins is at such a great price, it is worth it, to me, to throw away my other thermometers and use 2 Cooper-Atkins Thermometers in my oven. My baking is very precise. I weigh every ingredient and take the temperature of ingredients. Oven temperature is crucial to the outcome of a finished product. I cannot trust this important step in the baking process to anything less than the thermometer I have been using since 2011 with consistently positive results.
UPDATE 12/14/15: Earlier this month America's Test Kitchen chose a new winner. I still love and rely upon both my Cooper-Atkins. After viewing the video I concluded the Cooper-Atkins might not be as easy to view as ATK's new winner.
