A basic design problem with RJ11 type connectors is the retention clip. Often they get broken when a clip catches on something and snaps off. This is annoying and I had to either use tape to keep the plug in the socket or replace it with a new plug. Although this cover method is not quite as good as a full cover, it does provide some coverage that would allow the plug to slip past things that may break it. It is an improvement over open clips. Thank you for reading my rant on one of the many pet peeves of gadget design.
