I have another one, given to me as a (great) birthday present, so I had some practice really getting to know how to fly this kind of quad-copter. I was hooked, so I bought this one myself. Fairly soon after getting it, I decided to fly it high in the air to find out what I could see from there around us. However, I looked at the screen on the controller for a few seconds too long. Looked up, and saw that it was drifting towards the trees, which you can't see on the camera. It doesn't give you peripheral vision - it points straight forward and down at an angle. So at this point I panicked and overdid the maneuvers out of the area, which caused it to move behind me. Once that happened, I couldn't fly it by sight, since all of the controls were now backwards from how I was looking at it. If I had more experience, I would have relaxed a bit and gone back to looking at the screen on the controller, to bring it home. Instead, I hit power up to avoid more obstacles and it shot straight up, and I couldn't see (or hear) it any more. I had all but given up on ever seeing it again, when I happened to glance down at the screen again, and noticed that it was still transmitting - I could see down now from the unit, but it was now so high that I couldn't recognize anything it was looking at. I tried rotating the view, hoping to see something familiar, but to no avail. Forgetting that it was still climbing, the view looked like something you would see from a hot air balloon or small airplane, and I should have relaxed the power on it, but it didn't occur to me - I was more interested in finding out where it was, and hoping to fly it back. Just then, the screen went blank. It had either run out of power (the battery only has about 6 mins of life), or gone out of range. Either way, it was now going to fall from that height, silently, and more likely land in a tree or someone else's garden, bushes, hedges etc., so I gave up on ever seeing it again. However, I had so much fun, that I immediately ordered another one. I'd like to be able to order the 'copter without the controller, but couldn't find out how, so I ordered the full set again. This time, I'm going to add a label on the 'copter that has my phone number on it, should it be lost again and someone happens to find it. Also whenever I use the camera only view, I will have someone standing by me, to help me avoid the potential obstacles to the sides. Overall, love it, but it's a learning experience, so take your time, and make sure you're in an open space for the first few days you try it out, or it will get stuck in a tree or worse, you might completely lose it, like me!
