I saved over $2,000 by not installing a gas insert
I used this in a 20" coal fireplace. The "grates" and logs fit perfectly, but I had to cut 2" from both sides of the plastic reflector. I was able to run the cord down the ash flew to an outlet in my basement. Here's what you need to know:
- it is fragile so careful assembly is required.
- the plug comes out the right side of the heater box.
- it makes no noise when the heater is off.
- the heater works well and is very quiet. The heater is on high in the attached video.
- the "grates" are plastic which gave me the ability to get them inside the small fireplace. The on/off switch is located on the right leg (see attached pic). It needs to be clear for the remote control to work.
- the "fire" is produced from lights behind a rounded plastic panel. The lower front of the plastic panel has a mirror finish to hide the lights. Look closely and you can see the rounded top of the panel in the video.
- I blacked out the top and bottom edge of the plastic panel with a black sharpie.
