This was purchased based on independent online reviews that stated this is one of the best models on the market as of Summer 2017. Ordered 7/22 and received on 7/28, this has replaced a Haier HPC12XCR-LW unit originally purchased at Wal-Mart 2014 or 2015 (do not remember). Here are differences I've noted between the two units: Mobility: 122DS is bigger and roughly 20lb heavier than the Haier, it was difficult for me to move the delivered package by myself from the porch to within my apartment. The casters on the bottom, however, must be well designed as it was easier for me to roll around without catching the carpet than the previous unit and so was not much trouble maneuvering after the packaging was removed. Noise: The Whynter unit has virtually no compressor noise (humming / gurgling) compared to the previous unit, I cannot hear it unless I press my ear against the unit. Because there isn't much variation in just fan noise I feel I could sleep comfortably with this unit with the low fan setting if needed in the bedroom. Installation. I'm not very handy, it took me around 2 hours to get put together and started. The hoses were a bit unwieldy and I made the mistake of wrapping the exhaust with reflective wrap Reflectix DW1202504 Spiral Duct Wrap before hooking up to the window; I had to unwrap everything to bend the hoses to the correct position and re-wrap. The pvp window kit seemed much sturdier and thicker than the Haier window kit, but it was also a bit unyielding and painful to position correctly, especially with trying to wrangle two hoses versus the single of the old unit. Effectiveness: My central air has been out and so the portable AC unit is the sole cooling source right now for my ~750 sqft apartment, installed in the living room. Here are some figures from my crude observations (Ambient represents roughly inside apartment temperature according to old wall thermostat in living room): Haier: Outside 95F, Ambient 82F, Cooled to 79F after ~5 hours. Outside 85F, Ambient 78F, Cooled to 75F after ~5 hours. Whynter: Outside 85F, Ambient 78F, Cooled to 69F after ~5 hours. Outside 88F, Ambient 79F, Cooled to 71F after ~5 hours. Outside 80F, Ambient 77F, Cooled to 72F after ~3.5 hours. The past three days have been very comfortable for me. I am pleased with this unit's cooling ability and would strongly recommend it if found within the $425 - $460 range. Other notes: Used Frost King EPDM Weather Seal around bottom and side edges, Blue control panel light automatically turns off after ~10 seconds of interaction with the control panel (does not keep light on), using the remote for the first time reset the main unit's settings (temp / fan), advertised as 12 EER but the yellow government energy guide sticker that came with the shipment stated 11.1 EER, the online guide for this unit specifies the large hose goes on intake and small on exhaust but the instructions that were provided with the unit specified large hose on exhaust and small on intake (how I installed), the control panel displays desired cooling temperature (not current room temp) while on cooling mode.
