You get what you pay for (maybe a little more)
After auditioning several small speaker systems (Creative, Logitech, Sony and others), and reading lots of reviews on Amazon and CNET, I realized I had spent over 4 hours researching a $50 purchase. Which, let's face it, is ridiculous. I'm also the kind of guy who will return a product if I don't feel 100% comfortable with it. (I guess this passes for normal consumer behavior these days.) So I decided to take a deep breath and buy the T12s, which had sounded pretty good in the store. And you know what? They sound even better at home. The sound is natural and very musical. The sound stage is adequate for a home office, bedroom or an apartment living room. The bass is juicy and for 50 bucks I'm not going to worry too much about the midrange. I think they do quite well in reproducing acoustic instruments like solo piano and guitar. They are detailed enough to bring out the differences between a good recording and a bad one. No, they won't make a low-fi MP3 file sound like a Japanese import CD, but then even my expensive floor-standing speakers won't do that. My advice to you is not to over-think your purchase and get the T12s if you're at all tempted. They're absolutely worth a try.
