This is a perfect keyboard for beginners. It does not have touch sensitive keys(if you are familiar with midi keyboards, it has no velocity sensitivity; the cheapest way to get that is to purchase a midi keyboard which requires that it be connected to a computer with appropriate software to produce sounds) which is good for young hands that are not strong enough to control their touch(true for beginner adults, too). The keys have a nice light touch. If you are wondering, it DOES come with a power adapter, so you don't need to use batteries(six D cells) if you don't want to. I found the instructions very well written in perfect English. They were easy to understand and follow. It has quite a range of volume, using some large speakers compared to some inexpensive keyboards. The learn functions are interesting, but no matter how you slice it, they are no substitute for traditional elementary music books. There is a very easy to use music stand for using sheet music and music books. The overall layout and design of this makes it very easy to understand and use all the functions, so a beginner can concentrate on learning how to play and read music and not worry about the complications of using the various functions. This is a good choice at a reasonable price.
