I have been crocheting amigurumi for many years. This book is a great addition to my collection. It is simple enough for the novice, yet includes fun critters for the expert. Please read the introductory pages before starting a project even if you are experienced with amigurumi. The designer explains why these patterns are slightly different than traditional amigurumi. Most true amigurumi is made with the smaller hook another reviewer mentions and uses #3 DK or sport yarn. These patterns are designed for standard #4 worsted weight, hence the use of an H hook. I think if you are new to this craft the thicker yarn and larger hook are easier to manage. I have made 4 patterns. I used a D hook for the gray cat.... bit tight with #4 yarn. I tried an H with the pink rabbit, then used a 7 (4.5mm) for the blue one. The turtle was also made with the 4.5mm hook. That's my preference for these patterns. Bottom line is to use the yarn and hook that work best for you. The number and variety of patterns makes this book worth your purchase.
