I never thought it would be so complicated to buy an electric kettle but the sea of reviews and expanse of products out there was dizzying! Seems like every review I read about any kettle had reviews saying they rusted, or leaked or broke in a myriad of ways...all I wanted was something to boil water in for goodness sake! I finally took the plunge and purchased this since we had good luck with Krups products in the past. And you know what? It works just fine at boiling water. Might take a little longer than some others out there and might be a bit noisier while it does than still others but it's just fine at getting it boiling every time. There were reviews that said it built up lime even at the first use. Well it might, but that's not a defect of the product, that's chemistry. A simple rinse out with some citric acid and water once a month gets rid of it so when we do that for our coffee maker, we also do it for this. No big and not a defect. It hasn't leaked, or rusted, or melted or whatever doom kettle reviews bear warnings of. So that's good. It's also cool to the touch on the outside, pours without splashing and doesn't take up too much space on my counter. I like that the cord hides in the base and that it has a clean design that's unobtrusive in my kitchen. The water gets piping hot and stays warm in the carafe for some time as long as you keep the lid closed. There's to temperature gauge on this so if that's important to you then you'll have to choose something else. I just needed it to boil for tea so that wasn't an issue for me. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was for it's lack of a bell or "ding!" when it's done. The switch flips up and the light goes off in the switch when that happens and that's your only way of knowing it's done. The boiling water makes quite a bit of noise when it's boiling so the silence once it shuts off is my other clue. Would be nice to have a bell tone though. The price was OUTSTANDING and it does what it's supposed to do so count me a happy customer that is happy to recommend it as well.
