Now I Know The Difference!
My watch batteries had died, and I have quite a few of them so that was going to cost me a small fortune to take them to the watch repair place. I had to find out which batteries were the correct ones for my watch. I searched on Google, and this is what I found published by an Ebay seller. You will find the information useful the next time you have to buy a watch battery.
"Silver Oxide vs Alkaline Watch Batteries
Alkaline batteries are defined by the letters AG in front of them, i.e, AG1, AG2, AG3, etc
You should NEVER use Alkaline cells in watches for 3 very good reasons:
1: Alkaline batteries are 1.5 Volts, NOT 1.55 Volts, your watch was designed to run on this very specific voltage, under-powering it can cause it to keep incorrect time.
2: The major component of an Alkaline battery is sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, if the battery should leak inside your watch, it could completely damage your watch beyond repair.
3: Silver Oxide batteries have a very "flat" voltage profile, this means they keep producing 1.55v until they are exhausted, alkaline batteries have a "curved" voltage profile which means as they discharge the voltage becomes lower, sometimes as little as 0.5 volts, most watches will stop working at 1.3Volts or less."
The explanation above helped me understand why my watches kept dropping time, and/or not working properly. These batteries that I bought are working very well in my watches, and they were exactly as described and come packaged as in the picture.
If you have expensive time pieces like some of mine are, you definitely do not want to use a cell that can damage them beyond repair. Spend a few dollars more for the correct cell rather than a few hundred/thousand to replace your timepiece(s).
