Not the best, but good enough.
Let me start off by saying that for at-home use (which is recommended for these clippers) they’re fantastic. I, however, purchased these to get me buy for a while in the shop where I work. A) because I’m just starting out, and B) because they were the best I could afford right now. If I was just using these at home they’d get 5 stars for sure. If you want to use these for professional grooming, accept the fact that you will have to upgrade in a few months to a more groomer friendly pair. The blades are inter changeable, but difficult to change out. Most pro clippers have a button you press and the blades pop right off. With these you must force them off (carefully so they don’t break or cut you), then slide in the new blade and turn the clippers on before locking it into place (also carefully so as not to cut yourself). That isn’t very convenient if you have to switch blades frequently. Yes, they do heat up. But for those reviewers who claim they heat up too quickly- you either think they do but they really don’t, or they do because you didn’t oil them before their first use. They don’t heat up any faster than the top dollar clippers my boss has, IF you’ve oiled them correctly. Even with a pair of 500$ clippers my boss has to pause and spray the blade down with a coolant. That’s just how it works. The blades are metal rubbing on metal, they’re going to heat up with continuous use. Especially if you’re a dog owner with little to no experience (because a lack of experience will have you moving a little slower than an 8 year long professional). If you’re worried about having to pause to allow the blades to cool, buy a spray coolant from just about any pet store, or a cooling stone. And ALWAYS make sure the clippers are properly oiled. The blade that comes with these clippers is not my favorite, but again is just fine for at home use. The 10 blade it comes with is ceramic, and more prone to breaking with frequent use. Still, it will do for now, and it seems to cut very well. Again, reviewers who claim this blade wouldn’t cut properly probably lack the knowledge they need to say for certain. These clippers are a single speed, meaning with thicker and/or more difficult coats (finer hair) you’ll have to go much slower. And if they’re still not cutting properly, you need clippers with more than one speed. Meaning you’ll have to spend more money. More difficult coats require either more time, or more professional equipment. It’s not the fault of these clippers. I like the weight of these. They’re well balanced, and I prefer the switch on the side as it’s easier and more natural for me to switch them on and off. The cord is a decent length considering they’re for home use. If you’re a pet owner looking to groom your dog these are perfect. If you’re a groomer just starting out or strapped for cash, these are a good option until you can afford a better set. As for how long they last, it’s hard to say. Time will tell. But if they last through 10 dogs, they’ve paid for themselves 5x’s over.
