I like this toy as it extends the life of some more expensive treats. For my 60 pound, one year old, toy destroying Golden Retriever the large size is perfect and she hasn't damaged it at all after months of unsupervised use. I use Happy Howie Beef sticks, hard strips of jerky (USA made only), baby carrots and other treats. You will need to experiment as to what size/shape treat works best for you. If my beef stick is too thin, I can wedge another treat beside it to make it harder to get out. Sometimes I put a baby carrot in the middle then seal the ends with Merrick round sausage cuts. If I stuff it too well, she will bring it to me to help her get the last little bit out. I count this as a win because it keeps her busy for so long and I happily use a butter knife to push through her last bit of treat. The toy is super easy to keep clean and made in the USA of safe zogoflex. I love West Paw!
