Once upon a time, I had a huge wooden rolling pin I'd purchased at a thrift store. It was solid maple, about 15 inches long, and beautifully seasoned. The bearings must have been made with some kind of unobtanium and lubricated with Unicorn oil, because rolling out a 16" pizza took almost no effort at all. Then I married a woman who was absolutely convinced that every kitchen utensil she owned was superior to mine, and I ended up giving away my beloved maple rolling pin to Goodwill. Her vastly superior OXO rolling pin wasn't up to the task of our Friday night pizza parties, and eventually started falling apart. Our marriage did, too, and the lesson to take away from this is that if someone always tells you how superior their judgement is to yours, whether it be in purchasing plastic rolling pins, or making virtually inedible nutritional yeast gravy and practically roping you to a chair in a makeshift interrogation room to get you to try it, they have issues far beyond the skill set of most family therapists, and probably most clinical psychologists as well. But I digress. When I moved out, I needed a new rolling pin, and a replacement for my trusty old maple rolling pin-cum-jousting lance was no where to be found. I searched on Amazon, and ended up choosing this one. I'm glad I did. It's got weight, girth and length, something my size queen ex-wife should have appreciated in a rolling pin, but alas, that elluded her as well. I've already made pizza a couple of times with it, as well as the crust for a Pear Gallette, and it rolls out beautifully. For the quality of the product, the price seems like a steal. Buy this, don't get married, and never, ever, let anyone talk you out of your favorite kitchen utensils.
