The Bezels are not that big, really.
I am currently using the 2015 MBA as my primary computer except for playing games. This is my first Mac.
Design:
I've looked at a few premium laptop options out there. No one else makes a laptop with this much attention to detail, I am sorry but I don't care what Ars Technica says about the design being outdated. Sure, the Dell XPS 13 has a slim bezzel, but how long can you brag amount a slim bezel? Slim bezels will not attribute to the laptop's resale value.
Performance:
With 4gb of ram, I am happily editing photos in Photoshop with no issue. Watching movies, browsing Reddit, everything works well. I don't feel any stuttering or lag. For the average user, this thing is plenty fast.
Screen:
Lots of people are saying the screen is TERRIBLE... compared to MBP's Retina, or Dell's QHD IPS display. Well no sh*t, on a spec sheet, it is certainly terrible compared to those displays. But in real life, it is a good display that is bright and produces good colors. At 13", most people can't tell the difference. At a lower resolution versus the competition, you benefit from less draw on the battery. Okay, so the viewing angle, I wish was a little better, but I'm not editing photos for print on the MBA screen, so I don't care that much. I'll happily trade some screen resolution for a bump in battery life.
Other thoughts and comments:
Not everything's cherry blossoms and kittens though, I do find the hinge on the screen to be somewhat "loose" feeling compared to a MBP. So far it hasn't been an issue. Lack of an HDMI port is kind of silly, I have to use an adapter with the Thunderbolt port to get HDMI out. They didn't include the force click trackpad, which was a bummer.
If you're stuck between this or the MBP, just remember the MBP's size is not much larger than the Air. I chose the Air for it's better battery life, $300 cheaper, and because it can do everything I need it to.
