solution for "the tube is too stiff to stay down in the water source"
I replaced the ceramic "weight" on the intake tube with a 1/2 ounce fishing weight (drilled with 9/64 hole) and got the tube to uncoil nicely in a water source level with or below the planter.
TIP: Use a bulb syringe to blow the bubbles out of the top and the tube, and connect the top to the ceramic stake while both are underwater. Bubbles seem to be the main reason people have failures, since they block the very small tube.
