Perhaps my beliefs and preferences for coffee will shed some light on my brief review. I enjoy one large cup of coffee per day early in the morning: whether I am commuting to work or headed out to capture sunrise. I believe in strong medium roasted coffee. I believe enhanced coffee flavor comes from using a greater quantity of fresh quality medium roasted beans as opposed to roasting the life out of the bean. I believe in pure water, a touch of fresh cream and turbinado or demerara sugar. I dislike any coffee that turns bright white when challenged with a bit of cream. This coffee maker is great. You can adjust the grind and the weight of coffee to be ground for each cup or carafe. You can adjust how much water is used and the amount of coffee dispensed with adjust automatically based upon the size container for which you selected your water volume. I don't care about folks complaining that their oily beans sometimes get stuck. My medium roast beans (Lavazza Crema Aroma) don't get stuck ever. A word of caution: when I first used this machine I referred to the quick start guide and based upon my preferences I selected the finest grind and the strongest (most bean to be ground/cup) and was disappointed in the weakness of the coffee produced. I considered sending it back. I read the full instructions and learned about machine calibration. The calibration said the machine was delivering 24g of ground coffee for the calibration "dose" but I only weighed 13g. Once I completed the calibration, I changed my grind to setting #3 (almost the finest) and kept the strength at 8 (highest) and I am a happy boy. You may wish to buy some quality paper filters if you like to grind your bean finely because the goldtone filter will allow quite a bit of sediment or silt into your cup. Paper filters solve this problem.....if you view it as a problem. THIS IS AN AWESOME MACHINE.......I HAVE NOT SEEN THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED OF IN OTHER REVIEWS. You will not be disappointed.
