Works great, but parts are limited.
We have been using this model for nearly five years, on a daily basis. Boils water super fast! It works great, but with a few quirks. As others have mentioned, maintaining a very low "simmer" heat is a challenge, as the burner doesn't seem to like being set that low. It is also true that the fuel will pop off the mount if it gets too hot. I find that it only does this when I'm cooking on cast iron at high heat for extended periods of time, like when deep frying.
Regarding brands of fuel, we used the GasOne brand from Amazon for a while. But the price is high. Once we discovered that they sell these same butane cans at Asian markets, we have saved a ton of cash by purchasing them locally.
Every so often, like maybe every six months, the igniter will not spark. We have found that a quick rub on the ignitor tip with an old tooth brush brings it back to life. However, you sometimes need to remove the ceramic ignitor from the clamp and clean it more thoroughly. And unfortunately, after cleaning it four or five times, the spark wire fell out of the ceramic piece and looks like it cannot be reattached.
Called Iwatani and the only parts available for this unit are replacement knobs and feet. So until I can find a replacement piezoelectric ignitor that fits, we are lighting the burner the old school way...with a match.
Overall, it has been a very dependable little stove and we have gotten lots of use out of it, but it seems a shame to have to buy a new one when the only thing that broke is a (probably $4 or $5) part that Iwatani doesn't offer for sale. If I can find a suitable replacement, I'll update this review and post it here for anyone else that runs into this problem.
