Difference between the 880LM, 888LM, and all the MyQ Liftmaster and Chamberlain products
There are various MyQ products from Liftmaster and Chamberlain, and their Website does not explain the difference. Well, here is my research:
888LM: This remote speaks Security+ via the two wires of the control panels. This fits all openers with violet button (after 2006), and most with yellow button (after 1996). The panel can control lights, door operation, and reports door status via the Security+ protocol, and adds MyQ to these openers.
880LM: This remote speaks Security+ 2.0 via the two wires of the control panel. This fits all openers with yellow button. These were made after 2011. The panel can control lights, door operation, reports door status, and gets diagnostic information via the Security+ 2.0 protocol. This panel does not technical add MyQ but speaks to openers that already have MyQ.
821LM: This remote speaks the wireless Homelink protocol that built-in car remotes speaks, and virtually all, even very old, openers can do. This product comes with a tilt-sensor that you stick to the door talking to the hub directly to detect whether the door is open or closed. It also has the 828LM gateway function built-in. This product is awkward and redundant if you have a Security+ or Security+ 2.0 opener, but is a good fit for old Billion code (green button) openers. The hub add MyQ to these legacy openers.
Now to the gateways:
You need a gateway or bridge to be able to remote control the opener via an app.
828LM: This was the original gateway Liftmaster came out with. It needs a wired Ethernet connection and misses the crypto chip for Apple Homekit. It talks wireless to the MyQ opener or MyQ 888LM control panel and has to be placed within 30 foot reach of the MyQ opener or panel.
819LMB: After Liftmaster was not able to software upgrade the 828LM (and for that matter the 821LM hub) to Apple Homekit, they came out with the 819LMB that replaces the 828LM. This bridge has a wireless Wifi interface, instead of wired Ethernet. It does not need to be placed in the garage but within reach of the MyQ signal that is about 30 feet. The bridge is relatively new and came out summer of 2017. It talks wireless to the MyQ opener or MyQ control 888LM control panel, but also adds Apple Homelink to the 821LM hub talking via the MyQ protocol.
MyQ accessories talk to either the MyQ enabled opener, or the one retrofitted via the 888LM panel, or 821LM hub. You need a bridge or gateway to remote control via app. The 821LM hub has that gateway already built-in which does not do Homelink.
All of these products also exist with Chamberlain branding. They are really the same products and both work on Liftmaster, Chamberlain and a variety of other brands. There is also a Liftmaster and Chamberlain branded apps which appear to work for either accessories and look the same, besides the color scheme red vs. blue color scheme in the app.
The 888LM and 828LM come in the Chamberlain CIGCWC kit.
The 821LM is called MYQ-G0301-D with Chamberlain.
The 819LMB is called MYQ-G0303-SP with Chamberlain.
