We have owned this monitor for over a year now and it is still one of the best purchases we made prior to our daughter's arrival! Before deciding on this specific monitor, we were fortunate enough to have friends who owned competitive products. After seeing the video quality of the Samsung and the Phillips, my expectations were quite low. The picture on those monitors is horribly grainy and pixelated, in my opinion (which surprised me since they make TVs). The actual size of the screens, for the models that are in the same price range, were considerably smaller too. When I bought this, there were only ten or so reviews on here, so I put it on our baby registry along with two other models. The week leading up to Black Friday (2013), this became a Lightning Deal. The list price then was $239.99 and the deal knocked $46 off of that, total cost was $193.99. I jumped at the deal, even though there were only a dozen reviews - because the reviews were all 5 stars. When it arrived, the set up was super easy. Practically plug and play. And the video quality? Superior to Samsung and Phillips! I can see my daughter breathing in her crib. As a first time parent, that is beyond comforting. The sound quality is also there. I can hear my daughter sucking her thumb on the lowest volume setting. To say I am happy with this purchase is an understatement. My only complaint, like others have mentioned, is the beeping. Beeps when you turns it on, beeps when you turn it off. Beeps when you put it to sleep. But, like I said, my version is the original and is two years old now. I know for a fact that the newer models don't beep, since I've recommended this product to my family and friends. It might seem like a big amount of money to drop on a baby monitor, but it's worth every penny. I don't regret this buy one tiny bit!
