Yes, it does work to stem the tide. . .
Gory review - don't read if you're queasy! I am almost 48 and have had a lot of issues with my periods, which used to be so easy, over recent years. Two months ago, I was absolutely desperate following yet another death-defying episode of volumes of bright red blood during my cycle that I now understand is known as "flooding." All of my GYN tests, including an ultrasound, were normal. It was getting so bad that I feared to leave the house even though for years I have used a menstrual cup, which, under normal circumstances, can be worn for up to twelve hours and affords tremendous freedom not to mention the near ability to forget one's period. I was emptying mine hourly. It was horrifying. I also had some BIG clots. To be clear, I got my period at age nine and for decades I had an easy time of it. I know what a normal period should be. This was anything but: terrifying, nausea inducing, omg I'm going to die amounts of fresh red blood, literally gushing at times. VERY distressing. I read everything I could find, and the many reviews from other women before me, and settled on the following regime: Vitex capsules 1 2X daily Red Raspberry Leaf capsules 2 1X daily Lady's Mantle tincture 3 droppers daily Red Raspberry Leaf tea occasionally Then, once my period started to show signs of flooding (on day 2) I took the Shephard's Purse every hour at first, then periodically again over the next 24 hours, and again any time my flow turned bright red instead of the normal deep color. It worked. I had one bad day and then my period proceeded quite normally. This was only my first cycle on the regime and I did have wicked cramps and migraine for one day, but I feel confident that I now at least have the ability to stop the very worst symptoms of extreme bleeding. I did not start the Shephard's Purse in the days before my period, which I plan to do this time, maybe 3-5 days before, just 3X daily. I want this to be my weapon of last resort, only for heavy bleeding. I carried it in my purse - what a miracle of convenience! I found it bizarre that my GYN who is younger than me, and is a woman, had no answers for me. It is clear that Western medicine has nothing, absolutely nothing to offer women dealing with these issues and I feel very lucky that, for the first time in history due to the internet, women have the ability to share their wisdom and find answers themselves. "Folk medicine" may lack the clinical studies and scientific evidence for real credibility but gee, I wonder why? Who would fund these studies? For me, I am absolutely certain this made a difference and I am hopeful that I can manage this life transition effectively using a holistic approach. I hope this helps. ***Update from my May review. I am now on my third cycle with this regimen. I had almost no cramps this time and the first two days were easy. On day three my period was heavy but not as bad as before. That day I took a dropperful of SP every hour for about five hours until the bright red blood subsided. When I woke up the next day I was back to a light flow of deep red menstrual blood again. For those who have not had luck with this I would say that this likely needs to be used in conjunction with other herbs that are used all month long. I am now down to one Vitex capsule per day and two red raspberry leaf capsules daily. I only take Lady's Mantle drops 3X daily during the second half of my cycle and stop it when my period starts. The SP is ONLY for flooding episodes of bright red blood. I am not concerned about the contraindications, which don't apply to me, and other associated risks that another reviewer mentioned as I use so little of it for just 2-3 days a month at best. I am comfortable with both the source and quality of this product. Everyone must conduct their own research and find their way. The combination of these things, for me, has given me my life back. No migraine this month either so far. . . knock on wood! This month I tried Mountain Rose herbs brand and it smells and tastes awful but was very effective. Herb Pharm tastes/smells much better but I don't care - I just add it to a little water and shoot it down.
