Forgive the personal information, but I'm sharing in case anyone else finds themselves in an "I'll try anything" place with a threatened miscarriage. I began taking this at 8 weeks pregnant after suffering from a subchorionic Hemorrhage/hematoma (SCH). I was told at that time that I had a 50% chance of losing my baby, due to the size of the internal bleed, and was put on a "modified" bed rest. In a desperate search for Anything that might increase my odds of keeping my baby healthy, I stumbled across two clinical studies that used Alpha lipoic Acid (in conjunction with the traditionally used progesterone) to help with outcomes for women with an SCH - and while my doctor hadn't heard of these studies, he reviewed them thoroughly and saw no reason to not give it a try (I did this pill 1x a day orally while doing the progesterone vaginally). I'd been told repeatedly by multiple doctors and ultra sound technicians that with the volume of blood that my body wouldn't be able to reabsorb it all, and it would likely be expelled....well all these weeks later, I've never bled externally, and it's gone internally...and so all I can point to is that this did it's job as an super antioxidant and helped my body reabsorb the old blood. I resumed normal activity and stopped the progesterone at 13 weeks. At that ultrasound, the bleed was smaller, but still present . I don't know if I just got lucky or if these little pills are as miraculous as they seem, but I am now at 22 weeks pregnant and was told at my 20 week ultrasound there was no evidence of ANY blood inside. This is truly crazy given the size of the bleed initially. My doctor has told me he's spread the word locally to other physicians and has encouraged two other patients to give it a go. I'm still taking this, and plan to for the long haul!
