This is a wonderful slicer. There are several reasons why I chose to purchase this item over others. Since I've been using it a while, I'm very glad I picked it for those same reasons. I would consider myself an at-home gourmet for many years and have tried dozens of kitchen gadgets and this is one of my favorites. There are other mandoline options on Amazon, but this one is great as there are several features that sets this one apart. First, it has a blade cover for storage that other mandolines don't have and it comes with cut-resistant gloves that have come in handy for us as we've used it. Second, the slicer is quite sharp. As long as I used the mandoline correctly - making sure to slice the vegetable quickly and firmly as is recommended - I had no trouble cutting onions, sweet potatoes, and tons of other items in all different sizes and types of cuts. My suspicion is that others who may have left less favorable reviews using this mandoline may not be using it correctly as I found it to be extremely sharp and useful in cutting any vegetable. The dial is very convenient and I love not having to store a bunch of random blades. The dial is very easy to adjust and the whole unit is easy to clean - just rinse and let dry on a drying mat. I would suggest rinsing it right away as its hard to clean anything with dried on vegetables. I love this device!
