To the whiner’s: are you ok? Great product, not for impatient people.
Please read before buying:
If you:
-don’t know how to knit, crochet, or do any other fiber arts, I do not suggest you buy this. You need to understand a few things before you buy. I’d suggest getting a manual loom to learn how it works first or if you mess up you’re just going to get mad and give up.
-if you don’t have the patience to learn something new and are going to complain because “I had to look up a video”, don’t buy this. You’re just gonna be upset; you’re probably upset anyways about other things.
-All yarn is not created equally. There for all yarn will not work the same in this machine. I have found after a few trials (I’ve made 7 hats so far and received my machine yesterday), 4 weight yarn that is smooth and twisted up well works the best. Some examples I’ve used that went well are Caron simply soft, Crafter’s secret, and “I love this yarn”. Some yarns that did not work were my Yarn Bee soft and sleek, and loops and threads yarn. Each continued to get caught in the machine so I didn’t push the issue.
Now, for some key points:
This machine is a tool. It is not the solution to your problems. It is just another tool to help craft fiber arts. You are in control of it. If you are rough with it, you’ll break it. Don’t go ham and crank it so fast you busy the needles because it gets caught on some yarn. Be patient. It can take 30-40 minutes to make a hat. Also, read the instructions and look up a video if you’re unsure. Don’t try and guess.
So here’s my advice when using it-
Make sure the surface u put the machine on has the ability to hold the suction cups. If it’s not suitable, try a different surface.
When threading the first part (casting on), cast on loosely. In other words, don’t make it super tight.
It says to go slow the first 3-5 turns around but I’d suggest get at least 10-20 cranks around before picking up the pace. But even still, if ur yarn is touchy, u may have to go slow. It’s not perfect and it’s just a tool.
To all those complaining about it- it’s not meant to bust out perfect hats. It’s meant to be a tool to use to make cool knitted things quicker. Even if you have to go slower you’re still cutting ur time down significantly.
Don’t sweat it too much and have fun!
Lastly, don’t go buy a huge bunch of yarn. If you have some, try the stuff you have first. If you don’t, just buy a few skeins to see if ur going to like it or you may just end up getting mad about it like others that didn’t have patience and didn’t wanna keep trouble shooting til they got the right yarn and everything.
That being said- 10/10. I really like it. Does it dorp stitches? Sure but that’s expected. Does it not work on all my yarn? Ya, but, not all yarn works on all hooks and needles, so this is not different. I’d highly recommend for anyone who wants to knit hats but hates knitting (avid crocheted myself). I love the knit look and feel but don’t have the ability to actually knit because of having sensitive hands.
Anyways. If you read this far, buy it, but be open minded with the ability to take the time to learn to use it correctly and how to fix dropped stitches. It’s really not that big of a deal.
