We have two 12yo cats, one of which will stop at nothing to wake us up in the wee hours of the morning because he's either hungry, or lonely, or bored, or some combination of the three. (Trust me, he's not starving.) We just moved into a new townhouse, and after putting up with his shenanigans in the old place for years, I finally pulled the trigger on this beauty, partly because we could no longer barricade the bedroom door, and partly because I'd had enough. We've been here less than three weeks and he's already started to shred the paint on the bedroom door. Oh, also--our new place has levers instead of door knobs and he figured out how to open that real quick. Locking it only resulted in LOUD NOISES. AT 4 AM. Ahem. Appeasing him meant no sleep for us either because as soon as he was granted access, it's all: "Yay, thanks for letting me in, whatcha doing? Let's play! I'ma knock all the things off the dresser! Ooh, your face is warm, don't mind if I do! Pat. Pat. Wake up. Pat. Pat. You awake? I'm bored. Pat. Pat...MEERRRRROWWWWWWWW" and so on and so forth. Fast forward to last night. We set the SSScat in front of the door and aimed it so that it would be impossible for him to not set it off if he started scratching. The wife and I snuggled in to bed and were both mere inches from sleep when we heard it go off. "sssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!" followed by much frantic scrambling from the other side of the door. And then---silence. Blessed, utter, and complete silence. Until we both couldn't hold it in anymore and busted out laughing. So, after laughing our collective butts off for a good few minutes, we both breathed a sigh of relief and soon after we were both fast asleep. Last night was a good night. TL;DR: Can't sleep because your cats are a-holes? Get the SSScat. It's so worth it.
