EXTENSIVE REVIEW: Please read before purchsce
Comprehensive in-depth review:
Excellent projector for the money. This is a generic GP90 720p Chinese (alibaba.com special) projector that has been badged for the Goodee company. It is the same as the other GP90 projectors from other companies on Amazon. At about 10-11 feet from the projector you get a good 100" image.
There are just a few differences with this projector from the much more expensive major brands primarily poor color purity, lower resolution, less features, poor light uniformity, keystone limitations, inferior materials and craftmanship and poor height adjustment but it makes up for in bang for the buck and a presentable projector for everyday use with NO CONSUMABLES aka needing light bulb replacement. This is the highest quality 720p LED projector you can buy for the money.
The Good parts:
1) Projector is a 720p native projector with an active TFT matrix single LCD panel. Unlike old LCD panels this one does not suffer from the "screen door effect".
2) At 100 inches diagonal I could watch this at 6-7 feet without problem providing that "immersive" theater feeling without image degradation on a plain white wall. Just know it will look a little soft compared to 1080p but I could still read the credits ok.
3) Image is super bright measured around 350 ANSI lumens (stated 3200-3500 lumen). You need about 50 ANSI for a completely dark no-light room so this works very well for rooms with some ambient light. Will not work in a bright room FYI.
4) There is a front air filter that they do not describe that is removable and cleanable near the front foot with two tabs.
5) Colors on this projector are rather rich and saturated when pushed. You have limited controls such as red, green, blue color percentage, contrast, sharpness, brightness, ( at level of LCD and not LED output) and color saturation.
6) There is an option to upgrade the firmware via USB but I cannot find any webpage for this company except a Facebook page.
7) Will connect to terabyte hard drives and USB sticks and play MP4, Mp3, MPEG, AVI, MKV, AAC content natively.
8) Has VGA, 2 HDMI, 2 USB, and composite input. No S-Video or component inputs though.
9) 30,000 hour LED source is amazing, but I don't think the internal fan will make it and kick off long before that. No user servicible parts aside from the air filter I can see.
10) This projector allows you to mount it upside down and even use it as a rear projection setup.
11) Has built-in adjustible video noise reduction
12) Has auto aspect ratio.
13) Has built in Equalizer function (unclear if it's for only internal speakers)
14) Auto volume compensate function for volume leveling
The Bad Points:
1) Image keystone dial due to it's function when not at a dead center of the screen causes portions of the screen to be out of focus no matter what you do to correct.
2) Speakers distort horribly with full range content (SRS) which they state is state of the art but it is far from it.
3) No internal Dolby decoder so any Dolby audio stream coming to the projector from usb will not work on the internal speakers.
4) Poor contrast ratios despite their statements -They state that the projector had a 3000:1 native contrast ratio and a 10,000:1 dynamic. The 10,000:1 is pure fiction. Fix - buy a manual or automatic screen that has a grey reflective material to help boost contrast in a non-light controlled room.
5) I have heard that projectors like this have a 32 db noise floor. WRONG It's very loud and not speed sensitive meaning the drone is always there even at 3 feet away. UPDATE: Apparently international specs show 32 dB at three feet away where US standards are way closer (1 meter) thus the huge sound problem. Good news the fans are replaceable with quiteter ones (with ball bearings) for the DIY types but will void your warranty so buyer beware.
6) My sample when black levels are at their maximum, I can see actual dust that is either on the panel, the mirror or the internal lens which is not user accessible. Very distracting but can't see it easily with high brightness content. It is not sealed well FYI. UPDATE : That is not dust internally, those are BAD PIXELS. They apparently use B rate LCD panels, but at this price point I can deal with it.
7) The light output is not adjustable, but if you do some creative masking around the edge of the front lens opening, you can boost contrast levels.
So for the money this is a clear 5 Star evaluation. From a videophile standpoint it's a 2-3 Star but passible. Can you buy this combine it with a remote control screen all for $250 shipped? Heck yeah! And be the hero at your son or daughter's party or backyard barbecue? YES! This is an amazing projector for cartoons and gaming but not so good for PPT office use.
Hope that helps everyone as this thing rocks! Please click the "HELPFULL" button if you liked this review.
