The smaller size is perfect for many uses.
Reading the reviews, it's clear many users that bought this are grilling noobs. I own both the full size and this mini chimney. They both have a purpose regardless of what size grill you have. I happen to own a 22.5" Weber Master Touch and a little Smokey Joe. If you want to fully load a 22.5", which I rarely do, use the large one, but for minion method smoking, the small one is perfect, as you only need 10 or less lit briquettes and the large one doesn't get going well unless it is loaded at least 1/3 -1/2 full. You end up either wasting charcoal, or struggling to get the full size going with so few coals. Also, if you own a Vortex, those are so efficient, and burn so hot you don't need a full size chimneys worth unless you were planning on a really long, and really hot cook. Again, the small chimney is perfect for use with the Vortex for shorter cooks like a reverse seared steak. In a nutshell, if you really want to up your BBQ game, and become a grill master, you need both sizes, unless you only have a very small grill, then the small one is all you need.
Pro tip: Use cotton balls soaked in 91% rubbing alcohol to light your chimney. No need for messy news paper that just leaves behind a bunch of ash. The cotton balls are small, so they don't need much space, they burn efficiently and cleanly leaving behind next to nothing, and they'll burn long enough to get the chimney going. I keep a Ziplock 3 cup container with a screw on lid full of cotton balls in alcohol. Need to light the grill, just grab two cotton balls out of the container, and get going.
