They work!
Well after a long fight I am finally free from those stinking fungus gnats!! The nematodes did a great job and I recommend them to anyone having gnat issues. One thing I would say is to be sure you put enough packets in your plant. I have one huge Norfolk Pine which I put 4 packets into the soil but it wasn’t enough. I had to buy more. So if you put in 8 million nematodes but you have 16 million gnat larvae then it won’t work. I also did 4 prong approach since I had a bad infestation. Below is what I did to rid all my plants of fungus gnats: 1). Remove the dirt from top of soil then put packets of nematodes under the dirt. 2). Water the plant then cover large pots with duct tape. (See pics) or smaller plants cover with a ziploc sandwhich or freezer bag. My seedlings I put a clear sand which bag over each seedling and larger plants I placed in ziplock storage bags and zipped them shut. On my biggest plants I covered the plant pot in duct tape. This kept gnats from coming out and new ones from going in. 3) l placed Vaseline at the base of my duct taped pots so no gnat could get in or out of the area that the tape did not cover. (Like close to the tree trunk) 4). Use those sticky gnat strips to catch any wandering gnat. Then wait it out! I covered every single plant in my house with either tape it plastic bags. I had to wait a full month before I finally stopped seeing any gnats! Keep the ziploc bags zipped shut. The bags work like terrariums and you won't have to water your plants. You will see gnats flying around in the bag but they can't get out. I would crush the top of the bag to kill the flying gnats. No matter because eventually they all die from the nemotodes. I have a lot of plants and even some lemon tree seedlings that were infected with these gnats. It was a nightmare. But the nematodes and covering the plants and sticky strips did the trick!! I did not have to throw away even one plant but what a damn nightmare. I literally felt I was at war and I was determined to win! And I did! Good luck to anyone suffering with these gnats. I hope my post helps!
