For the price this is a great buy however
For the price this is a great buy however, if you are expecting true surround with booming bass you will be sadly mistaken. I wanted to boost the sound and give it more depth to compensate for the thin tinny quality of my Samsung TV. It does the job and is pretty impressive. HOWEVER...setting this sucker up was a nightmare. If you hook it up via optical you cannot control the volume with anything other than the tiny remote that it comes with. You cant program it to your universal...trust me...3 hours of screaming and pushing buttons got me nowhere...so what to do? A tiny remote in my house is just begging to end up missing...so i go buy another HDMI cable because someone somewhere said theirs was programmable once hooked up via HDmI...and everything you read on the internet is true, right? So..i followed the directions. I dont have the Arc option on my tv so i plugged my cable box to the HDMI in port and used another cabe to go HDMI out to the Tv. Turn it on and set it to the function for HDMI and voila! Let there be sound. I try to program my remote....nada. its at this point that i notice the tv telling me that the aynet device isnt recognized. I went into the tv settings and told it to search...whatta ya kniw...it added it...i then turned aynet on on the soundbar by holding the aynet button on said tiny remote for 3 seconds...im still not quite sure if this step was necessary. Hit the uni remote and lo and behold....the volume worked!!!!! I turn on my dvd player..which is hooked up via rca...no sound...wii...no sound...im changing functions on the soundbar like a mad man to no avail...what the heck...they worked before when i had the optical hooked up.....and lightbulb...i hook the optical cable back in alongside the hdmi...and everything works. If this helps one single person i will feel as if i have done my part to contribute to humanity
