Great way to get that fireplace mood without actually having to make a fire
We were hosting Christmas this year and wanted to get a fake fire to put in the fireplace to liven up the room a bit, make it feel more cozy and homey. Most of the ones we looked at were way too expensive so we got this one mainly due to the $40 price tag, and we couldn't be happier with it. When we opened it we were surprised to find that this thing is made out of real wood. I had figured it was made out of plastic but the entire frame and the logs you see are all wood.
It's powered with a regular two prong power cable that has one of those roller wheel switches on it to turn it on and off. Such a switch easily could have been a pain to use when placing this thing inside a fireplace behind the glass doors and that chain curtain, but we didn't have to deal with that because we had a spare smart outlet that we used instead. We plugged the log into this outlet, hooked the outlet up to Alexa, and then we just say "Alexa, Flame On!" to fire it up.
The light comes from a red lightbulb in the back and is pretty bright. The light not only comes out the clear plastic part in front that's textured to look like wood on fire but it also shines out the back, top, and bottom so it really lights up the inside of the fireplace. There's a spinning cylinder inside with bristles that strike against a piece of plastic and that produces the fire sound effect and makes it appear that the light is flickering randomly. This is all for aesthetic value only as this doesn't give off any heat aside from the heat of the lightbulb, which I would personally recommend replacing with a red LED bulb just so that it doesn't use so much electricity.
For $40 this is totally worth it. It's a great way to get that fireplace mood without having to actually make a fire.

2/1/2018 Update
I was looking into replacing the included incandescent bulb with an LED bulb, and while there appears to be enough room to fit a standard A19 size bulb I wanted to get as close as possible to the original size. After measuring the original bulb I believe it is a G14 with a standard E26 base, so something like this JandCase LED Globe Orange Light Bulbs, 1W, Opaque, Tiny G14 Bulbs for Christmas Tree Ornament, Halloween Blowup Lantern, Medium Base, 6 Pack should work.
